Volunteer with us    The Joy of Helping Others
Worship with us     Spiritual enrichment through worship and prayer              Bulliten

I am told frequently by community members outside our church that they know our church as being continuously active in the Prescott/Prescott Valley community. We support efforts to feed the hungry locally through community cupboard, CCJ, Family packing and other ministries. As I thought about this I was reminded of how deep and connected we are to our past faith traditions and our ecumenical siblings as well. We now offer a 10:30 more traditional service that highlights the creeds or our faithful past and present. We connect through the Quad city Interfaith Council and doing events with local congregations. I am reminded that all of this is not just the work of the pastoral staff, here at Prescott UMC, but more about the work of the body of our church. Martin Luther in Germany thought up something we call “the priesthood of all believers” which is an idea that “ordinary Christians share a common priesthood in that they have direct access to God through their prayers without requiring a human mediator.” What more does it mean? That as part of Christ’s body, we are each called into ministry. We are called to care for our neighbors, to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the prisoner, care for the orphan and the widow. Attending church worship is not enough. Contemplating the scriptures and our personal relationship with God is important, but it is not the end. In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus empowers the disciples to go out and carry on his work. The pastors in your church help guide the congregation and its body to do this work, but we cannot do the work ourselves. How can you live out your faith in the Prescott, Prescott Valley communities? How can you shine a light on those experiencing darkness? How can you uplift those feeling low? Look for ways to live out your ministry. You are part of the priesthood of believers. Now go out and live it. —Pastor Misty
