Who Are We ?
Wherever you are in your faith journey, you have found a home at Prescott United Methodist Church, “for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all people.” (Isaiah 56:7)

We seek to be an active and diverse body united through Christ. We include all persons without regard to age, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender identity, marital status, socioeconomic level, religious
affiliation, or personal ability. We welcome all and exclude no one.

--The first weekend in July starts a new sermon series
at Prescott United Methodist Church. Both pastor Misty and I will be preaching on the Ten Commandments. One  commandment each week for the next ten weeks. This means that the series will run from Fourth of July weekend through Labor Day weekend. We are working together on it so no matter which service you attend and no matter who is preaching at that service you will hear about the same commandment. There are pros and cons to series preaching. You may want to collect all ten in the series, you may find the subject matter interesting, and you may like the idea of hearing a similar theme for a long period of time. Some of the cons are you may have to miss one and feel like you can’t pick up in the middle, you may not like the first in the series and give up on the rest, or you may not like the subject matter (there are several “don’ts” in there). We are doing our best to avoid these pitfalls by making each message standalone even though it is a series. We also post messages online so if you miss one you can catch up. We are looking for ways to state each commandment in the positive as something to observe rather than something to refrain from. For example “respect the property of others” instead of “do not steal”. We also feel that the Ten Commandments are both timely and timeless. They are timeless in that they have been the guide of faithful people for thousands of years. They are timely in that the world has become much more complicated and the
Ten Commandments are just as able to help us navigate as faithful people as they have ever been. In conjunction with the series our education committee will be offering Adam Hamilton’s small group study based on the life of Moses concurrently. Pastor Misty and I are both excited to be bringing this series to you. We believe it will be challenging, enlightening, and inspiring.
See You in Church,
Dan

Advent Bible Study

Messiah Prophets foretold of His incarnation, angels and shepherds rejoiced at his birth, friends cried for joy at his resurrection, the book of Revelation proclaims His second coming. He is Jesus, the Messiah. George Frederick Handel put Charles Jennens biblical extracts to music to create the best known and most loved of all sacred oratorios in the work we simply refer to as “Messiah”. It is these passages; starting with the prophetical texts from the Book of Isaiah, to the miracle of His birth in Bethlehem, His life, death and resurrection as chronicled in the Gospels, to a vision of the shining City on the Hill, that form the material for this year’s Advent Study. Using the LifeGuide Bible Study “The Messiah” by Douglas Connelly we will study and discuss these profound biblical passages as we let Handel’s musical score inspire us to greater understanding and insight into the heart of the Jewish and Christian beliefs. This study will change the way you listen to The Messiah forever, and may very well change the way you live. Multiple class schedules will be offered during the four weeks of Advent starting the week of November 27 with signups beginning in early November.
