Youth Mission Trips

Every summer youth get the opportunity to explore different cities and cultures. They experience different ways of living and different ways of giving back. These opportunities help us understand the great diversity of the body of Christ and our great connection to each other.

Last year our Senior High Youth went to Taize France to experience the ecumenical community established there. Check out pictures and experience some of the unique ways of worshipping our youth participated in.

Pilgrimage to Taizé

June 5-15, 2015

Young Adult Spiritual Pilgrimage- Youth and Young Adults between 16 and 29 years of age, are invited to attend a week-long spiritual pilgrimage.

Taize is an opportunity to seek communion with God through common prayer, singing, personal reflection and sharing. Being in Taize is also a preparation for taking on responsibilities back at home with a view to being bearers of peace and trust. When pilgrims arrive at Taize, they are welcomed by a community of brothers who have made a lifelong commitment to follow Christ in common life, celibacy and simplicity of life. The goal of the pilgrimage is to discover new depths of faith that enable us to make disciples for Jesus Christ who are commited to a world-wide connectional sharing of the gospel, in word and deed.

Taize is located in France, a bus ride from Geneva. Accomodations are rustic, with dormitory style life.. Food, showers, and other accomodations are very simple. Pilgrims must carry thier own clothing, supplies, and sleeping bags. Daily routines include worship, Bible study, prayer, silence, reflection, faith sharing, camp chores, and fellowship with 5,000 pilgrims from around the world.

If a student or young adult is interested, they should contact Pastor Claire Saunders no later than January 11, 2015. Applications are available in the church office.

You are Invited to Vacation Bible School   June 5-9, 2017

4:30 PM to 7:30 PM    “Discover Your Strength in God at Hero Central”  Free and Open to all youth ages Preschool thru Teens

Our 2016 Vacation Bible School was held June 6 – 10 with the theme

, “Egypt: Joseph’s Journey from Prison to Palace.”  Families stepped back in time at Egypt, exploring the life of Joseph. Kids and adults participated in a memorable Bible-times marketplace, sung catchy songs, played teamwork-building games, dug into Egyptian eats, visited Joseph in prison and then in his palace home, and collected Bible Memory Makers to remind them of God’s Word. Plus, everyone learned to look for evidence of God all around them through what we called called God Sightings. Each day concluded at Celebration—a time of upbeat worship that gets everyone involved.

Last year's VBS was during the evening hours of 4:30 – 7:45 PM. Dinner was included.  Kids from 3 years to 5th grade Came for fun, friendship and gaining a closer relationship with God.

A wonderful group of adults and youth come together each year to make this an incredible experience for all involved. Anyone interested in helping out with VBS in any way (teaching classes, playing games, decorating the church, handing out snacks, etc.) should contact the PUMC office at 928- 778-1950.

Toddlers and twos: Our knowlegable and experienced staff care and support for the growth and safety of PUMC's little ones. Toddlers can play with an array of fun toys, puzzles and books as well as make crafts.

 3 years -1st grade:

Sarah and Phil Elliott and Marsha Leathers and Karon Keeler switch off teaching this class using Bible In Life Curriculum. Children learn to pray, share their joys and concerns and share and think of others. Lessons are age appropriate and FUN!

2nd – 5th grades:

Jeannie McCall and Toni Reynolds teach this group using Bible In Life curriculum from Cokesbury. These ladies are creative when it comes to classroom management, having fun and reaching out into the community!

All students in this class are requested to bring their bible with them every week. We normally use the Adventure Bible in the class. There are bibles in the classroom for the 2nd graders and for visitors. (If your child is in the 3rd grade or higher and never received a bible from the church, we will get them one.) This curriculum lends itself to more exploration and use of the bible on a weekly basis, and we are continuing to learn how to use our bibles.

Vacation Bible School in July

Youth: Meet in the Deborah Classroom

Duane Gaddy leads the middle and high school youth using the LinC curriculum as a jumping off point. The lessons offer issues and topics that young people wrestle with on a daily basis. Using biblical references and discussion questions, everyone has a chance to share their opinion and learn how to respect each other. The students are also free to bring up and issue in their own lives that they need to discuss, and they are supported by the group.

Child Protection Policy - screening of all involved volunteers
